Where were you when football came home? This will be something that will be remembered for years to come after the Lionesses won the UEFA Women’s Championship at Wembley.
Some of you may have been lucky enough to be in the stadium, some of you would have been cheering them at home with your families and some of you would have been elsewhere waiting for the result to come through. I was in the surreal setting of a music festival with limited mobile reception that launched into an impromptu sing song of Three Lions by 25,000 people as the final whistle went!
You can’t be anything but inspired by the tournament and the achievement of the team. From Allesia Russo’s cheeky back heel goal to that now iconic celebration from Chloe Kelly in the final and from the pure joy and fun of the post final press conference to the scenes of the trophy parade around Trafalgar Square, a whole new generation of children will have been inspired to not only take part in football but follow their dreams in life.
Most the England team started their journey in grassroots football, and we have a local representative amongst those winners, Millie Bright. Millie was born in Chesterfield and started playing football at the age of 9 with Killamarsh Dynamos before being scouted and moving on to the professional game.
At New Tupton Ivanhoe F.C. we have opportunities for children to make their first steps into the game of football in a friendly, family atmosphere.
For those aged 4 to 6 we have Little Ivanhoe’s which introduces children to the game of football. They will develop their skills in a fun environment.
The club also runs a Wildcats Centre. Wildcats are the FA’s Girls Football Centres for girls aged 5 – 11 who want to get involved with football for the very first time or want the opportunity to play with other girls their own age.
