A New Tupton Ivanhoe’s football coach uses CPR skills to save a mum’s life.
Coach Mikey Holt has been hailed as a lifesaver after performing CPR on a parent who stopped breathing after an Asthma attack following his team’s training session in Tupton.
Mikey’s quick thinking in implementing his CPR training revived the mum of three.
The parent is recovering and can look forward to 2025 and beyond with her family.
The incident highlights the importance of CPR training across communities. All grassroots football coaches complete F.A. approved first aid training, which includes CPR and how to use a defibrillator.
Mikey said ‘I just did what I was trained to do and what anyone would do in that situation. Everyone should learn CPR; it really can save lives.’
Following the incident, New Tupton Ivanhoe F.C. is encouraging the uptake of CPR training.
Antony Maidens, Chair said: “The whole club is proud of Mikey and his quick actions.”
“When we complete our first aid training, you hope you will never have to use it, but you never know where that experience will be needed.”
“What happened after that football training session in Tupton highlights the importance of everyone understanding CPR and how to administer it. We would encourage everyone to learn CPR and refresh their knowledge regularly.”
New Tupton Ivanhoe F.C. is encouraging everyone to undertake CPR training. The British Heart Foundation offers a free online training session, which takes 15 minutes to complete and can be accessed at https://www.bhf.org.uk/how-you-can-help/how-to-save-a-life/how-to-do-cpr/learn-cpr-in-15-minutes.
Mikey’s story is a powerful reminder of the difference one person can make. By learning CPR, we can all be ready to save a life when it matters most.
